Well Ya'll, Nephew Watch 2011 is humming right along.
Ok fine, perhaps once or twice it was limping along but there was humming in the background! I knew all along that yesterday would likely be the most challenging day because we were staying in with no pool trips or what have you to bribe entice trick encourage the boys to behave in a manner that did not make me desire a wall on which to bang my head :)
All in all it was a pretty good day, but I did hear a decided cranky tone in my voice a couple of times, usually while saying something like why in the world would you DO that? Perhaps regarding something like sitting on a brother's head until he cries. Or not. I can't rightly say.
Anyway, they played outside for about an hour because I told them fresh air was terribly important for growing their muscles. (What can I say? they are somewhat fixated on growing muscles right now!)
A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do is all I'm sayin'.
We had a royal fit or two and quite a few giggles, along with more TV than I technically approve of...and after approximately three false starts all was quiet and the snoozing commenced. I then proceeded to get my work done (I work a split shift on Sundays and Mondays) and stumbled to the tub...followed rather quickly by bed.
A full 48 hours into the week and we are all still standing, HA!

And I'm still counting...
(A Thousand Gifts #590-606)
little boy hugs, and little boy giggles...and blessed little boy fatigue
unexpected encounters in unlikely places
"aunt nay saves the day!" :)
unusually dry air with brilliantly clear skies on a hot July afternoon...and chatting leisurely about it with the older stranger in the parking lot
audrey chattering away on my voicemail
watching my shayne show tenderness and patience with his busy little brothers
encouraging conversation with my boss
silence and ceiling fans
deep, delicious bathtubs and cherry garcia
her baby bump...and his obvious excitement
Precious, priceless, unfathomable freedom and all the love, and honor, and integrity, and sacrifice that has been offered up to secure it
Happy Independence Day Y'all!
So I'm not at home this week living the quiet, tidy little life that I live when my children are doing their own thing. Yesterday I packed up a myriad of things I will likely not use and moved myself into my sister's house for the next week. She and her hubby are at the sea celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary this week, far far away from little boys and employers and dogs who like to go outside every 12 minutes or so. So here I am, taking care of little boys and the aforementioned doggy. The employers are on their own.
I think things are going pretty well so far, if I do say so myself.
They were quite impressed by the fancy scrambled eggs with the cheese melted on top that I served them for breakfast. They were also terribly motivated to tidy up the living room & what not because of all the POOL FUN they knew would follow. It's amazing to me how even exhausted or cranky children can be just happy as clams for a lot of hours, even in 200-degree sunny July if there is a swimming pool and some blue Gatorade to be found.
They likely showed more sense than I did today because I got waay too much sun. I'm feeling all tingly and stingy, and overall generally uncomfortable. I'm afraid I might be in for a world of hurt for the next couple of days as I pay for today's foolhardy-ness. My nose is just as pink as can be, and I fear for the state of my shoulder area.
I am so old enough to know better.
Anyway, we got back and Shayne helped me get the boys bathed while I worked on our gourmet dinner of Hamburger Helper Cheeseburger Macaroni (Shayne's favorite!) with a special viewing of Kung Fu Panda while we dined. A bit later I was reading stories to the little boys and explaining that they couldn't talk to mommy just yet because she was at dinner on her "honeymoon." They settled pretty quickly because of all the SHEER EXHAUSTION of their day, and they were sound asleep by 7:30.
But it wasn't time to call it a night quite yet. Shayne and Dakota wanted cookies, and to my delight Shayne wanted to help me make them. I took this as a perfect excuse to SIT and decided to let him do the work while I instructed him on the specifics.
Can I just say I haven't eaten any of the cookies, but the dough? It was TASTY.
We then crashed in the living room to begin a night of movie-viewing with very little in the way of getting up or moving around.
Because I have to tell ya, all of this sunshiny goodness has rendered me utterly pooped.
Happy Saturday!
p.s. There is no photographic evidence of our happy happy day because two minutes into our pool adventures my camera battery died. sigh.
Well y'all, I think it's official. I've misplaced my Bloggy Mojo.
I have never actually used the term mojo before, in like, ever, and am therefore unclear on mojo-related protocol, but I'm fairly certain mine is no longer with us.
Seriously dear friends, I'm not even kidding when I share that I have struggled and struggled with stringing sentences together recently. And by recently I mean lately. And by lately I mean in what seems like forever.
My plan at this juncture is to pretend that I'm just going through a phase known by brilliant writers all through time as The Writer's Block. I feel that not actually being one of those brilliant writers should have nothing to do with the validity of being blocked, and am therefore claiming this malady for my very own.
Although frankly my inner 12-year-old thinks Bloggy Mojo has a much zippier quality to it, with perhaps a touch of the hip and happening of which I am so fond.
{Side Note}
Well good grief.
Because of my love of the English language as well as all things grammar, I felt compelled to dictionary-check the whole mojo-usage dilemma, and I'm not entirely happy with the official definition as I am neither charming nor spell-binding. However, the urban dictionary says in contemporary slang it is understood to mean "talent," so I'm keeping it in doggone it.
Well...I'm keeping the zippy phrase. I do believe I established in previous paragraphs that the actual Jo and its Mo are somewhat missing in the strict, literal sense, at the moment.
{End of Side Note}
I blame part of my blockage on the fact that I've been working into the wee hours and then running around in circles while the sun shines. If anyone has a good suggestion of how to to get around the whole having-to-sleep-every-livelong-day thing I'd love to hear it!
Now see? There ya go. I have wandered through the bloggy desert for a couple of paragraphs and created something pointless and perhaps a bit perseverative, with a bit of melodrama thrown in for good measure.
Pretty much similar to practically everything I've ever submitted for your fine reading pleasure.
Go figure.
Happy Friday ;)
