Saturday morning Kari and I attended a brunch/bridal shower for a sweet friend of Kari's who of course is now all grown up. Like so many of these little ones who dared to grow, I still picture sweet Chelsea approximately not-very-many years old. No matter how many of them go and get married on us it's still hard to truly accept that these children became adults right in front of our eyes.
How this happened while we remained exactly the same and approximately not-yet-thirty is a mystery I don't care to solve. Some questions should remain unanswered.
Anyhoo, it was a lovely time, as it always is when I get to spend time with old friends. There was quite a bit of hugging and laughing while we indulged in some delightful yumminess.
(There was a very tasty cheesecake on a stick dipped inside chocolate that literally made me swoon
and that's all I have to say about that.)
It was a slow and easy time spent with a few of our favorite people
and the chilly, sunny Saturday was made better for it.
After the shower I went back to Kari's for a bit to see how Doodle's room is coming together (quite nicely!) and chat for a few minutes. It's so much fun just sitting there beside Peyton's crib, soaking in all the love that's already in place. That lovely feeling of ready anticipation is indescribable. It won't be long now!
The rest of the weekend was very quiet on my part. I'm still(!) not feeling back to normal & my sweet sister ran some meds over to me at bedtime on Saturday evening, which led to a nice visit. I actually slept a lot on Sunday & puttered in the kitchen...and of course worked.
I know, I know...
My life is fascinating and exciting and also riveting,
but I don't want y'all to be all envious or covetous or even jealous.
We all have our sweet blessings of which to be thankful. All we need do is look around us.

Happy Monday!
I don't know about y'all, but I'm surely glad it's Friday! There has been plenty of busy around these parts with a healthy dose of Murphy's Law to keep things interesting. For reasons I can't identify I haven't done a Five-Minute Friday post in MONTHS, but today seems like the perfect time to jump back in :)
So here's the deal. On Fridays Lisa-Jo picks a topic and then we set the kitchen timer for five minutes and write. Freestyle. With precious little deliberation beforehand. No editing. No stressing. Just writing and then stopping. Shall we get started?
Awake...
{Start}
It's easy for me to slide through my days to the rhythm of the day before half-asleep...sort of the way I can drive from Point A to Point B with little explanation of how I got there. I can get up from my bed with little thought at all and take care of the urgent and crawl back into my bed at the end of the day, neglecting to notice all the life going on right in front of me.
Being wide-awake can be HARD. When I'm awake I feel more, which means I can hurt more. People can disappoint me more. My bones, and my back, and my heart, they ache more...
But on those days when I wake up and really see what I'm seeing and feel what I'm feeling, when I make a point to love like a verb...when I end the day exhausted from all the hard things that come with waking up I sleep a sleep of peace, all filled up with knowing I made a difference. And as my eyes flutter shut against Andy and Barney's hijinks, my mind is filled with all the hope and possibility that comes with tomorrow.
{Stop}
Happy Friday!
Shannan has been bragging for what feels like forever about her "fiddies." This is what she affectionately calls blackberries. She gave them this moniker because for some unfathomable reason she's been nabbing them for about fifty cents a pint and has been eating them as if they cost mere pennies and not dollars apiece, and I've gotta tell ya, I've harbored envy in my heart. I love me some blackberries, but I don't recall the last time I bought them, mainly because I need to keep a roof over my head.
But that all changed this week, my friends. It was payday and I was tired of harboring a covetous spirit, so I marched myself and the boys to Kroger and purchased my very own half-pint. It happens to be January so I don't quite understand how it's possible, but they were GORGEOUS and plump and beautiful.
And also tasty.
Earlier this week I tried this, and it was a complete success. One morning I added a little vanilla, sugar, and few frozen peaches. The next day I shook things up and added a few strawberries. But today was by far the tastiest steel cut oats ever in the history of steel cut oats in my house. Just a little sugar with a few "fiddies" on top. We have a winner, y'all. And I have a new favorite.
Totally worth that loan I took out.
